New 2018 HKIAC Rules

New 2018 Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre rules set to enhance Hong Kong’s role as preferred arbitration

King and Wood Mallesons review the new HKIAC Administered Arbitration Rules that came into effect on 1 November 2018, dealing with the following five key changes:

  • refinement to emergency arbitration procedure
  • new early determination procedure
  • requirement to disclose third party funding
  • more encompassing provisions for bringing a single arbitration under multiple contracts, concurrent proceedings and HKIAC’s role in joinder applications
  • deadline for delivery of awards
